About Dysport®
Dysport®, like BOTOX®, is a formulation of botulinum toxin that temporarily paralyzes the muscles at the treatment site to smooth away fine lines and wrinkles. Although Dysport® is very similar to BOTOX®, there are some differences between the two products that may make one more preferable in some cases. Primarily, many report that Dysport® takes effect more quickly and may last a bit longer. Additionally, some patients may simply respond more positively to Dysport®, even if BOTOX® delivered reliable results for them in the past.
In addition to treating existing wrinkles, regular Dysport® injections can be started at a younger age to help prevent dynamic wrinkles from forming in the first place. What to Expect
At your initial consultation, Dr. Koehler will talk with you about your cosmetic goals and explain the treatment options and target areas that he feels will give you the best results from Dysport®. Since Dysport® is nonsurgical, men and women will often schedule a treatment session right over their lunch break before immediately returning to work and their normal daily routine. At your treatment session, Dr. Koehler will begin by asking you to make your normal facial expressions so he can study the way your facial muscles contract in order to plan the most effective placement for your Dysport® injections. Next, the product is injected directly into the targeted muscles. While the injections typically result in little to no discomfort for most patients, those who are more sensitive may request a topical anesthetic.
Once injections are completed, you can simply get right back to your normal daily activities, just making sure to keep your head upright for the first few hours after your session. Rarely, you may notice a bit of blood or bruising at the injection site if the needle punctures a small blood vessel, but this occurs infrequently and any discoloration can be covered by makeup. Any potential side effects from Dysport® are minimized by choosing an experienced injector for your treatment.
Risks and Complications
Dysport® is considered a very low-risk procedure, especially when injections are performed by a cosmetic surgeon with a great deal of technical expertise. How can I be sure my Dysport is authentic?
If you are concerned about the authenticity of your product, ask your provider to show you the packaging so you can be certain it is authentic. The packaging should feature the full product name and the seal on the Dysport should be intact. Of course, you should only seek treatment from qualified providers.

Are there reasons I should avoid Dysport treatment?
The primary reason to avoid Dysport treatment is if you are allergic to any ingredients in the product. Those who are allergic to the protein in cow’s milk should also avoid treatment. Finally, if you have an active skin infection at or around the planned injection site, you should delay treatment until this is properly resolved. It also is not approved for use in pregnant or breastfeeding women or children.

How frequently can I get Dysport injections?
While it can feel tempting to get injections more frequently to ensure you do not show signs of aging, Dysport should not be used more often than every 90 days. Dysport is considered safe to use long term, but only if the procedures are spaced far enough apart.

Should I talk to my primary doctor before getting Dysport?
It is always a good idea to consult with your general doctor prior to cosmetic treatment. This is especially true if you have any complex medical conditions, especially those that are neurological in nature. However, this is not a replacement for disclosing any conditions you have to the Dysport provider. You should be open and honest with them so they can be certain treatment is safe for you.

Can I get Dysport if I have already had BOTOX?
If you have gotten BOTOX treatment in the past, this does not prevent you from being treated with Dysport. You should wait at least 90 days since your last injection, though. If you had any adverse reactions to BOTOX, be certain to disclose these to your provider before being treated with Dysport.
