Laser Resurfacing
Are stubborn skin imperfections standing in the way of you achieving vibrant, younger-looking skin? CO2RE fractional CO2 skin resurfacing laser treatments can dramatically improve age-spots, fine lines, wrinkles, scarring, uneven coloration, skin laxity, textural irregularities, dull tone, and a thinned collagen layer of the face, neck and chest putting great skin within your reach.
Recognized as a skilled laser resurfacing technician and one of the top cosmetic surgeons in the Mobile-Pensacola metro area, Dr. James Koehler is a board-certified cosmetic surgeon serving patients from Gulfport to Gulf Shores and beyond. Dr. Koehler offers a wide range of medical spa and plastic surgery procedures for both men and women and is known for his caring commitment to a patient-first approach.
Are You a Candidate?
Ideal candidates for CO2RE have skin damaged by exposure to the sun, age spots, fine lines, wrinkles, discoloration or rough texture (acne scars). CO2RE is ideal for anyone seeking younger looking skin without the long downtime associated with conventional resurfacing procedures.
Although CO2 laser resurfacing can deliver dramatic improvements to the skin; more advanced signs of aging may require facial cosmetic surgery and/or dermal fillers to correct.

What to Expect
Depending on the depth of treatment, CO2RE laser resurfacing can be done awake in the office or asleep in the operating room. During your consultation, Dr. Koehler will advise you which approach would be better suited for you. You can expect some moderate discomfort during the treatment, but the anesthetic applied prior to the procedure typically makes any discomfort tolerable.
Immediately following the procedure you can expect a sensation similar to a sunburn, lasting several hours. You can expect peeling of dead skin from the treatment area. This is a natural exfoliation process that may last 7-10 days. Following the deeper CO2 laser resurfacing treatment, you will be unable to wear makeup for 7 to 10 days after the treatment and will likely not want to be out in public.
Although there is more downtime with the deeper resurfacing treatment, the results are also more dramatic. Generally, after one week, the area can be covered with makeup. Your skin may be light pink in color for weeks to months as it heals completely. The laser stimulates the body to form new collagen that will continue to form for several months. Deeper laser resurfacing can produce very dramatic changes in skin texture as well as fine lines and wrinkles.
Risks and Complications
The risks associated with CO2RE laser resurfacing include a possible darkening of the skin (hyperpigmentation) or lightening of the skin (hypopigmentation), swelling and redness. Although rare, a chance of infection, blistering or scarring may occur, but medication is to you before your procedure to reduce the risks of viral and bacterial infections as well as any pigment changes in the skin.
Your New Look
Generally, you will see a noticeable difference after only one treatment. Results do vary after the treatment, but you can expect your skin to look softer, smoother, and with less unwanted pigment. Over time, fine lines, wrinkles, age spots and uneven texture will start to show improvements.
There are a number of variables that will determine how long you can expect the results to last including your health, age, and how you care for your skin after the treatment. To maintain optimal results from your CO2 laser skin resurfacing treatment, we recommend the use of a daily skin care regimen such as SkinMedica Everyday Essentials System or SkinMedica Award Winning System.
